Living Waters For the World

Sacalum means "White Land". We did not know how significant this meant until we began boiling the water. We buy bottled water for drinking, but for cooking we used the local water. After cooking our pans would have a white haze built up on the sides; there is so much calcium in the water that it instantly forms as a residue when you boil the water! (Check out my fingers in the photo) Many of the people in Sacalum and the surrounding villages drink this water. No wonder that kidney stones are common for even teenagers. The cost of a 19 liter bottle of water is 17 pesos (@$1.50). Not all of the families can afford to have clean water all of the time.

Korean First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro has partnered with Living Waters for the World, http://www.livingwatersfortheworld.org/, to help bring clean waters to our friends here in Sacalum. We have taken the first step of raising the funds to purchase the equipment for the water purification system. The Living Water program here in Mexico is coordinated through the Nacional Presbyterian Church of Mexico. We are working with the local mission church in Sacalum and also a larger church from Ticul to bring clean water to Sacalum and its surrounding villages. The local church here is very excited and also has pledged its time and funds for the project. BUT we are still not completely funded to complete the project. We are hoping that that this is something you can all pray on. We are looking for either partners for the clean water project and/or persons who may be willing to donate or loan the funds for the remaining stages of the project.

PRAYER REQUEST: We are fasting and praying from 12/14-12/16. We will be making an offer for a small house to place the water purification system. We are hoping that God will provide this place for $3500 US.
